Her Name is Elke

I made this dress for Chris' little cousin Elke...her grandparents placed my first custom-order (woohoo!). I'm going to start playing around with embroidery on the dresses...I think I like where this is going.

I'm feeling the itch...to get my craft on

The past few months have been a bit rough...we moved unexpectedly in January and are now basically squatters (we're living temporarily in my husband's parent's condo in Santa Fe - great for saving $$$$, but not so great for feeling settled). All of my things are packed away with the exception of some clothes and about 3 boxes marked "CRAFT." Tonight I pulled out the "CRAFT" boxes and my sewing machine...I'm feeling the itch...to get my craft on.

So, as Sylvie says (with a very cute little nod) "yeah."

Type Tags {my GOD I love Etsy}

I was on Etsy...and, as usual, I stumbled upon something amazing that has my mind swirling with ideas... Type Tags made from recycled craft chipboard by LadyGreyDesigns. Love, love, love.

Poladroid

There's a very cool free program you can download called Poladroid that turns your photos into Polaroid-like pictures. Clearly, I've been having some fun with it.

You have, have to visit alittlegoodness' Etsy shop...so many cute Japanese fabrics, tapes, books, stamps, etc. I just found these adorable hanging pegs in her shop..and my mind is going crazy thinking of all things I could do with these...

This is a very cool font designed by Jean-Benoit Levy called H-AND-S. And this is how you sign S-Y-L-V-I-E. I think this would look very cool embroidered. Actually, these days, I think just about everything would look cool embroidered...

Embroidery Project #2

I'm thinking of embroidering this poem on either a pillow or dress for Sylvie...or both. I also need to get started on some Christmas stockings. And how many days until Christmas?? Something ridiculous...where did the year go? Sylvie's almost ONE! (Well, December 21...) Speaking of which...I'm planning a First Birthday fiesta...will post some ideas later.

Re: The Ornament Swap

I've been trying to figure out what I'm going to do for the holiday ornament swap...I'm thinking something with my handwriting...perhaps embroidered...on what? Uh, I don't know, which is exactly the reason I signed-up to do this...so I can play. Yes, yes, yes. I'm also working on our holidays cards. I'm so excited to send out cards this year because of our new addition (yes, Sylvie).

Typecuts: Volvox

This is so much fun and has given me soooo many ideas...

I "made" these Volvox composites on a very cool site, Typecuts. Volvox is a system of 5 fonts (volvox 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) that create a variety of ornamental composites by superimposing. Go play!

Yes We Can!!!

Proud. Filled with HOPE. Amazed. And off to bed...I've been crying and I'm totally exhausted...a good cry, though. What a day!!!

studio bon: TEXTILES

When we were living in Fort Collins, one of our neighbors had two wingback chairs sitting in front of her house with a little sign that read "free." Chris and I ran home, hopped in his old trusty pickup, threw them in the back, drove them home and plopped them in our very sparse living room. They're quite ratty and covered in a hideous old peachy upholstery...and I'm desperate to get them reupholstered...to look exactly like this!

I cast my ballot today

Today, Sylvie was with me as I cast my vote for our next President. It felt sooooo good to fill-in that bubble next to Barack Obama's name. I am so proud and filled with optimism...and it made me feel like a really, really good mama.

I made this shirt for Sylvie to wear when we've volunteered at Obama HQ with a group called Mamas for Obama...it's been a real hit. She'll wear it again on November 4 when we celebrate!
